Nexus Mods AI rules tighten disclosures and plan filters

Nexus Mods AI rules require upload disclosures and detailed labels, with a January deadline for existing mods and easier content filters planned.

Contains AI-generated elements

Nexus Mods AI disclosure rules changed on November 3, 2026, with a required AI statement for each new mod upload. The platform said authors must state whether they used artificial intelligence in their work.

Nexus Mods said it will keep hosting AI-made mods that meet its rules. It also plans easier controls for people who want to hide that content while browsing.

What the Nexus Mods AI labels cover

The platform’s policy separates AI-made game content, ads and work made with limited AI help. For example, generated voice lines belong to the first group, while an AI-made page banner belongs to the second.

Under the policy, authors using the AI-assisted label must name their tools and explain which AI outputs appear in the final mod. They must also provide evidence of human-led development. Thus, a label alone is not enough.

However, the policy says basic AI disclosure was already required. The new grace period covers added requirements, including detailed explanations for AI-assisted mods and permission tags. New uploads must fill out the updated fields immediately.

Filtering and permissions will follow

Nexus Mods said it is making content filters easier to reach from game pages and its homepage. Search controls will follow. Its announcement cautions that the changes will arrive in stages.

The platform also plans permission settings for AI use, training and modified versions of other authors’ work. These will require users to ask the creator by default, Nexus Mods said. The company says it will not train AI on hosted mods or license them for that purpose.

The deadline for existing mods

The policy sets January 2, 2027, as the end of the 60-day transition for existing mods. Staff will ask authors to fix missing details. Continued failure after notice can lead to warnings, account limits or removal, Nexus Mods says.
