GTA VI preload will open on November 10, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, Rockstar Games said. The publisher sets different start times for the two platforms ahead of the game’s November 19 release.
Rockstar says the download needs up to 212 GB of free space, depending on the device. Its support guide separates the download schedule from the settings needed to start it automatically.
GTA VI preload times differ by console
Rockstar’s schedule uses local time for PlayStation and Greenwich Mean Time for Xbox. The table shows when each digital version becomes available to download.
| Platform | Digital preload opens |
|---|---|
| PlayStation 5 | November 10, 2026, at midnight in each local time zone |
| Xbox Series X|S | November 10, 2026, at 00:00 GMT worldwide |

PlayStation uses local midnight; Xbox uses one global start time.
PlayStation says players who preorder can download the game before release. Its preparation guide asks PS5 owners to clear at least 212 GB of storage. However, Rockstar describes that figure as an upper limit across devices, rather than giving a separate size for each console.
Automatic downloads need the right settings
According to Rockstar’s support guide, PS5 players need automatic downloads enabled. The console must be on or in Rest Mode. Xbox players need automatic updates enabled, with the console on or in Sleep mode.
In addition, PlayStation tells buyers to check their account access before launch. Existing users should confirm their sign-in and account details, while new users need to create an account. Its guide points players to the PlayStation Store for the available editions.
Retail codes and launch-day downloads
Meanwhile, Rockstar says code-in-box versions for both consoles should reach retailers from November 12. That retail date is separate from the digital preload start.
Rockstar plans to release a free printable cover-art poster and a map of Leonida on November 19. It also plans a physical double-sided version shortly after launch, sold for $0.99 or included with a Rockstar Store purchase.
